Lab 07

In the l:\geog258 folder, there is now a lab7 folder.

This contains a project lab7.apr and a series of grid themes for Bainbridge Island.

Some of these are inventories of environmental constraints:

• Wetland inventory
• GeoHazards (unstable slopes mostly)
• Riparian Corridors

Some are human land uses or legal constructs:

• Land Cover 1991
• Easements acquired by the BI Land Trust
• Lands in forests under the Forest Practices Act

Plus backdrop:

• Elevation matrix
• Roads (etc.)

Your Group:

Your mission:

Learn about the Map Query facility of ArcView 3.2 to ask questions about combinations of various maps. (Also remember your skills with the Identify tool, the Zoom etc.)

How much land is in:

1. Wetlands AND Riparian Corridors AND Geohazards ?

2. Wetlands OR Riparian Corridors OR Geohazards ?

3. Why does AND / OR make such a difference?

4. Estimate what proportion of the BILand Trust holdings (easements) are in wetlands.

5. How do Geohazards and Roads interact?

(Could you pick out the roads with high maintenance vulnerability?)

6. Are the Forest Practice areas the Conifer Forest land cover type? (or deciduous?) (How much?)
