Question 8
Is OO just a buzz-word?
See the lecture on OO... The Intergraph
paper on MGE
might provide some constrast/support for your questions. Intergraph
has also moved on to GeoMedia...
In response to this question, pick at least one
of the options below:
- Set out the basic axioms of a relational database. Set out
the axioms of an object model. How does these conflict?
- Look at the Smallworld white
papers. See if you can distinguish which kind of OO they
do and don't do.
- ESRI is making much of ArcObjects
for Version 8. Here is an article
about how developers use ArcObjects... What kind of OO is involved?
- Read the section
on object orientation for the Open
GIS Specification. Why do they think they need OO? Look around
this document (back to TOC, etc.) and see how it fits in. And
look at the more recent "Inside
the OGC Specification" article. all their specifications.
Your answers shouldn't be much longer than one page.
